After washing my stockings, they are no longer as warm, why?
Did you remember to let them
dry? Warm clothing is warm because it
insulates well, and it usually insulates well because it traps air.
"Fluffy" clothing tends to trap more air than "flat"
clothing, and is thus usually warmer. I suspect that what happened is that when
you washed your stockings, you let
them air-dry, flat or on a line. When you do that, they end up being less
fluffy. One solution is to tumble-dry them in a dryer. If you did tumble-dry
them, and they're still not as warm as they were, it's possible that either
your water is quite hard, or you left a significant amount of soap or detergent
in them. In that case, you might want to try using a fabric softener, and be
sure to thoroughly rinse out all traces of soap/detergent.
